Hello all, I’m getting baptized into Eastern Orthodox Christianity next month. Here to meet fellow Orthodox or anyone who would like to talk about life and faith. Thank you

    • Hello, I am a new christian convert and I am considering joining the orthodox church. I do I decide which one to join, I am not of any ethnicity that commonly practices the religion so I’m not sure on which one I should attend. I’m in Houston so there are multiple Orthodox churches, (Coptic, Russian, Armenian, Romanian, Greek, Serbian, Antioch ,etc.)
        • *How do i* (spelling correction)

I’ve only attended one of the seven you mentioned and I don’t know you so I couldn’t possibly pick one for you…do you feel drawn to one? if not then go to the closest one and see if that’s where God wants you :)

            • Ok, thanks for the advice. :jfish:
                • Hi, I’m richard. I just happened to see your message in my feed and felt led to share with you. I have a friend in Australia who’s Eastern Orthodox, whom I’ve been encouraging to read the scripture for herself with no lens of deeply entrenched tradition clouding it. My pastor mentioned Orthodox in his sermon on Romans 3:21-31. They have a different gospel from what I’ve heard and read, one that involves works. They also say (or at least suggest, if they don’t openly admit it) that tradition and the writings of the church fathers is equal to scripture, which is not what God says.

Now, I understand the draw to the bells, smells and fancy robes etc, away from the ever declining “protestant” churches that are getting more and more liberal and bowing to culture and its corruptions, but at what cost?

Justification by faith apart from works, by faith alone, by grace alone, in Christ alone, is the gospel. Forsake that and no amount of pious chants, gaudy church architecture, flowing robes, intoxicating incense or pretty iconography (Exodus 20?) can replace that.

Anyway, sorry if that offended, that was not my intention, just want the best for you, which is what God wants, the gospel and a relationship with him. Don’t leave the gospel for a gospel of works and leave the scripture for a overinflated sense of church history and tradition.

                  Words for thought…

            • There are many ways to serve God. It is not what you “do” that God wants. This is where Christianity and other religions differ. God sent his Son to bridge the gap between priests having to intercede for us, and us being able to pray and worship in a personal way. The veil was rent. The barrier between the people and the inner part of the temple was removed by God that we may know Him. Whatever fellowship you choose, and wherever you feel comfortable to serve Him, know that Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Believe, pray, and read the Word to know Him.
