Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for he will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
How many times have we heard our lord and savior’s name taken in vain? Maybe in a movie, maybe being around people in general or maybe we have even done it ourselves.
How dare we take the name of the very one who laid down his own life, bore our sins, became our sins and took our punishment so we could be forgiven and given a whole new life here on earth and an eternal home in heaven in vain?!
We need to make a concentrated effort to watch our mouths and not use the name of God in vain. Even if that means praying over our tongues and mouths many times a day. His name is to be honored and revered for he is Holy and Righteous.
Thank you for your reply. I feel encouraging others is what we are called to do along with telling the truth of our Lord and Savior Jesus. I would like to hear your story if you are willing to share and i can share my story with you sometime if you want. God bless you! Remember you are a miracle because you are a creation of God.
I started chewing on “taking the Lord’s name in vain” years ago and I was quite surprised where it took me.
Picture a sketchy used car salesman who advertises his car lot as “Honest” John’s Used Cars. This man is taking the name “Honest” for his own glory. He is telling the world that he is “Honest” even when a lot of what he does is quite sketchy, perhaps even immoral or illegal. His use of “Honest” is for his own benefit – to make him look better – He is using the name in Vain.
When we call ourselves Christians, we are claiming that we are followers of Christ. Not simply admirers of Christ, or researchers of Christ, but that we are actual FOLLOWERS of Christ. What is a follower? Think of a football game. The people in the stands love the game, are willing to travel to see the game in person, can quote statistics, cheer loudly at times, etc… BUT they are not on the field taking the hard blows, fighting the battle! When we call ourselves Christian, we are announcing that we are going to be on the battle field fighting the good fight not just cheering from safety of the sidelines while sipping our favorite beverage.
God says that he would rather we were Hot or Cold (heaven bound or hell bound) than lukewarm (those that sit in the stands but don’t jump into the battle).
Let’s all choose to be FOLLOWERS of Christ, put on our armor, and get to work! The enemy is literally killing people all around us!
I agree with everything you said and it is time now more than ever that we stood up and let God’s truth be heard throughout this country, in our homes, in our schools, in our government, anywhere and everywhere we should be shouting God’s truth. It’s time the body of Christ and stand up stand up for Jesus and not back down. it says in the bible God did not call us to shrink back in fear but to live according to God’s commandments, and proclaim His truth and good news! So, as the hymn goes ” On ward christin soldiers marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before!
I agree the occult and anything that has to do with satan is very dangerous, but we as Christians who know Jesus, are saved by him and are born again through him should have no fear of satan. the only power the enemy has is what we give him, but in Jesus we can say ” greater is He that is in me than he that is in this world”
